Water is essential for everyone and it is recommended that the average person drinks at least 1 gallon of water each day (yes I know this sounds like a lot, but it’s not so hard to achieve). Drinking lots of water has many beneficial effects on your body. My high school science teacher once said: “if you want clear skin, then drink a lot of water” (he was referring to those of us with acne and obviously high school kids are mostly self conscious about this). This is the same with adults, no matter what age you are, drinking a lot of water will help improve the look of your skin.
Having great skin is one thing water can help you with, but it also helps boost your metabolism so you burn calories faster. Drinking a lot of water while eating healthy food and having a steady exercise routine will be able to help you trim down that waist line and burn more fat. Just don’t drink too much water, otherwise you’ll end up dead through water intoxication or water poisoning. No I’m not making it up, you can die if you drink too much water, so the recommended intake is only 1 – 2 gallons a day. If you go three gallons of water, then you are seriously pushing it because you will expel too many electrolytes and sodium from your body, which will cause it to shut down. Since I’ve never seen anyone die of water intoxication I cannot say whether or not it will be painful, but just don’t do it okay?
Another problem with water is, not everyone likes the taste of water, which actually has no taste if you ask me. Personally I trained and conditioned myself to drink water regularly so I don’t have any issues with dehydration, but some people are dehydrated and they don’t even realize it (this is due to some type of trigger of denial within your brain; I’m not going to claim I know what causes it, but I’m sure some scientist has researched what I mean).
Here is a recipe for anyone who wants to stay hydrated, but is unable to enjoy the taste of water in its natural state. The first thing you need is a gallon jug or liter pitcher. A standard pitcher holds about 60 liquid ounces which is 0.46875 Gallons, so you will need to drink at least two pitchers to reach the bare minimum intake of water per day (unless you have a bigger pitcher).
The next thing you will need are some fresh fruits. What I tend to think work best are fresh mint leaves, cucumber and lime. Cucumber itself has a really fresh mellow taste that infuses well with water. The mint leaves will add an extra kick of well… minty freshness and the lime will just add some tart citrus flavor to complement the mint and cucumber.
Anyway, enjoy your flavored water and stay hydrated! Just don’t go overboard or you’ll end up like that lady who tried to win that X-Box…
