Mughal Darbar is an awesome Indian restaurant located on 2321 N.High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43202. It was out of the blue that we decided to go for Indian food and I went there with my date today, November 14, 2013. Mughal Darbar is a Northern Indian restaurant, which means it has a heavy Persian culinary influence as well as influence from Kashmir and Punjab regions of India. Parking was conveniently located in the back of the restaurant, so we did not enter through the front entrance (look for the “Open” sign right above the door). As soon as we approached the door we were immediately greeted with a warm welcome by one of the staff. As we walked up the stairs, a server immediately asked us how many were in our party (it was just the two of us) and lead us to a table in the front dining area. As soon as we were seated, we were presented with a drink menu. One of the best martinis out there is the Blue Lotus, which was what I had. It was a combination of muddled lavender petals, fruit juices and Jameson Irish Whiskey. This is one of Mughal Darbar’s signature drinks and I don’t believe you can find it anywhere else. The scent is just amazing and will remind you of a morning stroll (I personally prefer a midnight stroll, but I had to reference a time of day my readers will be familiar with) through a fresh spring garden. My date had a lassi, which is a sweetened yogurt drink. She offered me a sip and the taste was just simply splendid (kind of like Jenni’s ice cream, but better!). It had a rich, honey-like flavor and I could have literally drunk the entire thing if she didn’t snatch it away from me.
The Blue Lotus is one amazing concoction and it is only available atMughal Darbar Indian Restaurant in Columbus Ohio!
If you are a fan of sweet yogurt drinks, then you will be in heaven with the Lassi, with its honey like flavor. I just couldn’t get enough!
I ordered the Lamb Vindaloo, extra hot and some Garlic Naan. I forgot what she ordered, but it was a green type of spinach dish with shrimp (not spicy, because I am the only one who likes the heat turned up). I was not disappointed in the least as Mughal Darbar’s version of the Lamb Vindaloo had just enough spice to make me sweat, but not enough that I had to drink more than two glasses of water, which is a good thing! Vindaloo has always been my favorite curry because of the tart and tangy vinegar taste combined with the hot and spicy curries that makes Indian food one of my favorites. Needless to say, it was just perfect and simply delectable! I ate everything on my plate and all the rice and was quite stuffed!
I have always been a fan of Garlic Naan, but Mughal Darbar certainly makes the best Indian Naan I’ve ever had in Columbus Ohio!
For anyone who loves Indian food or is looking for a good Indian restaurant, I would highly recommend Mughal Darbar as the place to experience the finest dishes of Northern India. For a restaurant on OSU campus, I really didn’t expect anything except off street parking, but this was not the case with Mughal Darbar. Just turn into W. Oakland Avenue and make an immediate right turn into the first alley; the parking lot should be obvious due to the architecture.
